What engine is put on the Kia Rio. Kia engine specifications

In 2006, the presentation of the brand new KIA Ceed car took place. Three months later, the first copy of the model designed on the Hyundai-Kia J5 platform was released. The novelty has become widespread due to the new extraordinary design and high reliability. In just three years, more than 40 thousand copies of the Kia Sid have been sold. Sales were growing all over the place domestic market was no exception.

The compact hatchback in a short period of time was able to take root on the roads of the post-Soviet countries. The car turned out to be reliable and unpretentious. Next, we will find out what the actual engine resource on the Kia Sid 1.4, 1.6 is and whether the indicators differ significantly from the certified figures by the manufacturer.

Features of the structure of motors

Practical application was received by two developments of Korean engineers: a motor with a working volume of 1.4 liters and a more powerful analogue of 1.6 liters. The first unit received the factory marking G4FA, the second - G4FC. Them design feature - aluminum body, which allowed the car to win about 15 kg. The 1.6-liter CRDi diesel engine is less widespread. On our roads, such a modification is extremely rare, due to the high sensitivity of the diesel engine to low quality fuel. After refueling with low-grade diesel fuel, drivers notice problems with the catalyst, filter, and fuel system.

Both motors have the following characteristics:

  • The presence of two camshafts;
  • Chain drive;
  • The presence of a variable valve timing system;
  • Contactless ignition system.

In 2013, the start of production of the next generation Kia Sid. The boost ratio of the 1.6-liter engine has been increased from the nominal 122 hp. up to 204 HP due to the introduced turbine. Both generations were equipped with 1.4, 1.6-liter powertrains, aggregated by a six-speed manual transmission. The machine received a lot of praise from car owners for its fast and quiet operation. Mechanics up to 2013 were distinguished by a 3-axle gear transmission.

Factory-set engine resource on Kia Sid

Since both motors have a largely identical structure, their resource is also approximately the same. The manufacturer assures that you can feel at ease while driving the KIA Ceed for the first 180 thousand km. What will be beyond this mark: engine whims and constant contingencies? Of course not. Largely the length of service power unit depends on timely service and driving style. In practice, these two power plants capable of smoothly functioning about 250-300 thousand km. But in order to achieve such outstanding performance, the car owner will have to really try.

Otherwise, the first serious breakdown can happen already at the turn of the first hundred thousand run. During this period, it is recommended to replace the chain, since its further operation can lead to the "jamming" of the motor due to its ability to stretch. Approaching the mark of 180-200 thousand km, you need to take care of the crankshaft liners and piston rings. Often the owners of Kia Sid complain about the engine knocking, which can be observed, both "cold" and "hot". In the first case, it is the timing chain that most often makes itself felt, in the second - unregulated valves.

Car owners reviews

Problems with diesel modificationare usually caused by the turbine itself. Oil consumption increases sharply. In the event of a leak engine oil it is necessary to check the valve cover, which often fails. In addition to the "musical" timing chain and valves, the owners note the noise emitted by the injectors during engine operation. It is practically pointless to deal with this, because the manufacturer himself admits the "noise" of the engine's structural element, explaining this by the peculiarity of the motor. What is the actual resource of the Kia Sid 1.6 engine with domestic gasoline? Reviews of car owners will tell in detail.

1.4 G4FA engine

  1. Evgeny, Rostov. I drive a 2013 KIA Ceed modification with a 1.4 engine. After passing the first 100 thousand kilometers, I went to a service station to undergo diagnostics. We changed consumables, replaced the stabilizer struts, filters and springs. The car became as good as new, they said that the engine as a whole was good condition and is able to pass at least 150 thousand more! So with proper maintenance, this car has no problems with the engine at all.
  2. Maxim, Stavropol. I have a first generation 2009 build with 1.4 engine. To date, the mileage is already 200 thousand kilometers. My car has overstepped the lifespan declared by the manufacturer. I want to say that my car is still as good as new. Sometimes on the highway I accelerate to 150-160 km / h, but in rare cases... On average, outside the city - 110 km / h no more. I change the oil after every 8 thousand km - the car works in my difficult conditions exploitation. I can say with confidence that the resource of the 2009 Kia Sid 1.4 engine is at least 250 thousand km.
  3. Edward, Moscow. In 2011, he became the owner of a KIA Ceed 2 with a 1.4 engine paired with mechanics. Mileage today is 240 thousand km. I drive mainly on a suburban road, my job is like this. I use the brand of oil recommended by the manufacturer, refuel with 95-m gasoline "Lukoil".
  4. Valentin, Novokuznetsk. Three years left for Kia Sid, and then sold. My wife asked me to give her the car, but I didn't want to mess around in the garage every weekend, since it began frequent breakdowns after 150 thousand kilometers. I changed the timing chain and for one clutch, tie rods and tips, the steering wheel did not obey before, after that they changed the bushing in the steering rack, it seemed like the problem went away, but there was no desire to do this further

The engine has a long service life, it can "go" more than 180 thousand km without much difficulty. Poor quality fuel or negligent attitude of the driver to the car and ignoring the order of maintenance can provoke serious damage.

1.6 G4FC engine

  1. Stanislav, Chelyabinsk. My personal opinion is that the resource of the power unit depends on its technical component. For example, the 1.6-liter version does not have hydraulic lifters, it is lightened by 15 kg, which is important in modern realities. The fewer the parts, the longer the engine life. Analogues with rollers and a pump, a timing belt lose in terms of reliability. The chain was replaced after 120 thousand km, that is, after 4 years of operation, since I wind about 30 thousand km in a year, well, I changed consumables, no more repair costs! The resource of the Kia Sid 1.6 engine of 2008, in my experience, is more than 200 thousand.
  2. Egor, Yekaterinburg. 1.6 petrol engine, already wound 92 thousand, normal flight. Do not believe the conflicting information that is whipped up on the Internet around the KIA Ceed. Reliable and quality car, change the oil in time, and there will be no difficulties. Virtually everything depends on the driver, if you have a head on your shoulders, the car will pass 250-300 thousand, if not, then after 50 thousand capital will be required.
  3. Matvey, Cheboksary. Bought new car in the salon in 2011. What I immediately noticed was knocks in the suspension, and they appeared after about 6 months of operation. The foreman said that the shock absorbers were not pumped at the plant, which means, frankly, I do not know, but the very fact of negligence, I terribly did not like. A year later, he sold the car and bought a Hyundai Accent.
  4. Cyril, Vladivostok. One thing I don't like is the weak suspension. There are practically no complaints about the motor, but the quality of the connecting links of the machine leaves much to be desired. Today the mileage is 210 thousand, I have had Kia Sid since 2011. The car as a whole was pleased with the replacement of consumables, 5W-40 oil, changed the timing chain, front struts.

The 1.6-liter version is best suited to those who prefer long journeys in addition to daily travel. The motor is distinguished by good dynamics, reliability and technological perfection. The actual resource indicator exceeds the one certified by the manufacturer. According to the owners' reviews, KIA Ceed 1.6 "walks" about 250 thousand km before the first major overhaul.

Very often I have to read questions - "tell us about Hyundai Solaris and KIA RIO engines, are they reliable or not, how long they run (resource), what are the problems, pros and cons, etc." After all, these Korean cars are among the best-selling and there is a lot of interest in them. For a long time I did not record this video (I thought everything had already been said before me in hundreds of videos and articles), but the readers want my opinion, so today I decided to write. As usual there will be a video version at the end ...

It should be noted that these power units are also found on most other Korean cars of a higher class, such as KIA CEED and CERATO, as well as Hyundai elantra, I30 and CRETA. They are also common in Russia, and therefore the information will be of interest to their owners.

For the impatient, I want to say one thing - THESE ENGINES ARE RELIABLE AS A HAMMER, ANY FREQUENT PROBLEMS WITH THEM NOW SIMPLY NO You can safely take it.

But for those who want to know more about the motors of these Korean units, read on.

What motors are installed?

Let's start with old cars (2010 - 2016 years of production), only two power units were installed on them, generations GAMMA 1.4 liters (107hp) and 1.6 liters (123hp)

At the moment (since 2017), both Solaris and RIO are equipped with two engine options - these are the so-called KAPPA (volume 1.4 liters - 100 hp) and GAMMAII (1.6 liters - 123 hp) .

The KAPPA generation began to be installed on the "poor" versions of the new generation of cars only in 2017, a modified GAMMAII engine (unspoken name) is included in high trim levels

EngineGAMMA (G4FA andG4FC)

Perhaps I'll start with a description of these engines, as well as with the structural features (the analysis will be very detailed, so stock up on tea):

Where do they produce: The plant is located in China (Beijing Hyundai Motor Co). Often there is a very prejudiced attitude towards this country, saying that everything is of poor quality and so on. However, do not confuse the underground and factory production (this is a huge difference). And so, for a minute, IPHONE is also being made in the Middle Kingdom.

Fuel supply system, recommended gasoline and compression ratio : Multiport injection injector (MPI). I consider this a plus, because this system is very simple, the injectors do not have contact with the combustion chambers (as in the direct injection GDI), here they are integrated into the intake manifold. Their cost is cheaper, the pressure is lower (there is no analogue of the injection pump), and you can clean them yourself. In general, I advise you to read, everything in it is simple and on the fingers. Gasoline can be filled, it works great on it (this is another plus). - 10.5.

Engine block : I will not grind for a long time now - YES HE IS ALUMINUM with thin-walled dry cast iron sleeves (they are poured in at the time of production). How many "shout" (in various forums) that the power unit is disposable and that "they say" drove 180,000 km and throw everything away (a little later). However, as practice shows, these motors are perfectly repaired. There are a bunch of videos on the Internet where these old worn out liners are thrown out and new ones are put in their place (well, then piston and so on). So Russian masters can do a lot - THIS IS A FACT!

Cylinders, pistons, crankshaft: 4 pieces in a row, pistons are lightweight oil scraper and compression rings of normal size (although they could be thicker). Crankshaft and its earbuds do not cause any complaints, they run for a very long time (this node is not a problem link)

Timing system : ON the SOLARIS-RIO engine, two camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder (i.e. 16 valves). - NO, only pushers are installed. Stands with a hydraulic chain tensioner. There is one, it stands on the intake shaft.

: Intake - plastic, with intake geometry change system (VIS). Exhaust - stainless steel. In fact, everything is very simple.

Oil: Replacement is allowed every 15,000 km, synthetic 5W30, 5W40 is recommended. Volume is approximately 3.3 liters. Working temperature - 90 degrees Celsius

Resource declared by the manufacturer : about 200,000 km.

The difference between engines 1.4 and 1.6 liters : The weak version is acronym G4 FA (1.4L-107) , the older version is known as G4 FC (1.6L-123) ... The engines are almost identical, the only difference is that the more powerful version has a piston stroke of 85.4mm, and the weak one has 75mm (different crankshaft). Thus, "1.6" simply sucks in a larger volume of fuel - EVERYTHING ELSE WITHOUT CHANGES (it will be in great detail in the video version).

The differenceGAMMA andGAMMAII (G4FG)

As I already wrote above, the generation of GAMMA engines was installed not only on HYUNDAI SOLARIS and KIA RIO, but also on CEED, CERATO, ELANTRA, I30 and let's say CRETA. But if the SOLARIS (RIO) power was 123 hp, then let's say on various "SIDAH", "ELANTRAKH" and other C-class was - 128-130 hp. Why is that?

EVERYTHING IS SIMPLE:

Behind the scenes there is such a difference as GAMMA and GAMMAII, motors:

GAMMA - these are power units with one phase shifter at the inlet, with a volume of 1.4 liters (code designation G4FA) and 1.6 liters ( G4FC).

GAMMAII - until 2016 were installed only on CEED, i30, CERATO, ELANTRA, etc. (power floated from 128 to 130 hp). Since 2017, they are also installed on SOLARIS, RIO and CRETA (power is artificially lowered to 123hp). The only difference is that they have two phase shifters on both shafts, the volume is 1.6 liters (code designation G4FG). The rest of the design is identical

In the bottom line - since 2017, the motors on SOLARIS and RIO have become different (both on ELANTHRA, SIDA and others), both 1.4 and 1.6 liters. Let it not be critical, but they are different.

Pros, cons and resource

Perhaps I'll start with a resource - this is what will be first plus ... The manufacturer gives about 200,000 km, but now there are cars from 2010 that have already passed 500 - 600,000 km and you know, the motors work, no matter what (no matter how scolded).

Truly hassle-free units , and they often run not on the best 92 gasoline. It is worth noting the convenient location, everything can be reached and easily replaced (candles, air filter), intake and exhaust manifolds, engine mountings. Short inlet, and this is not unimportant (the shorter it is, the less pumping losses for suction). Also, there is not as much plastic as it is now in many modern motors. The main thing is to service it on time (nevertheless, I recommend that you change the oil every 10,000 km), pour high-quality synthetics (there is still a phase shifter and a chain tensioner), and pour 95 gasoline.

By cons (although these are not minuses, but my recommendations). Noisy work fuel injectors - not fatal, but true (it seems not the chirping of a chain). There are no hydraulic lifters (there are ordinary pushers), they need to be changed (by selecting new ones in height) approximately every 100,000 km. The chain mechanism, and the timing chain itself, is also desirable to replace up to 150,000 km. Sometimes it happens (it can simply crumble), the crumb from it gets into the cylinders and can very quickly kill the engine. The problem is not widespread, but it happens, as dealers say, from low-quality fuel, so refuel at normal gas stations

If we sum up the TOTAL on the motor G4FA or G4FC, G4FG - then they really now have a great resource. As one minder told me - "reliable as a hammer and that not all Japanese walk like that now." THIS IS WHY many taxi companies love them so much.

EngineKAPPA 1.4MPI (G4LC)

As I think this is a continuation of the GAMMA motors, however, KAPPA has its own chips. Codename G4 LC ... Prior to installation on Solaris and RIO, this engine was installed on HYUNDAI i30 and KIA CEED.

Power : The very first thing worth noting is its quantity horse power - 99.7 hp (in the nomenclature it is written that 100 hp). This was done specifically for the tax, because in the early versions of the CEED and i30, such motors developed about 109 hp. So after the purchase, you can restore justice with the factory firmware () from Korea

Where is going : According to the latest information, they are delivered directly from Korea (there is no talk about China).

Fuel supply system, petrol, compression ratio: Here, multipoint fuel injection (MPI) injectors are installed in a plastic intake manifold. Gasoline not less than 92. Compression ratio 10.5

Engine block: Aluminum with dry cast iron sleeves. In fact, the design is similar to the GAMMA, but the KAPPA unit is 14 kilograms lighter than its predecessor! This causes caution, the motors are so "thin", but here somewhere else 14 kg were removed.

Cylinders, pistons, crankshaft: 4 - cylinder, arranged in a row. The pistons are even lighter than their predecessor. HOWEVER, as the manufacturer assures piston cooling nozzles - THIS IS REALLY PLUS. The connecting rods are thinner but longer. The crankshaft is similar to the G4FA and G4FC, but according to my data the journals are slightly narrower. Again, relief in everything is not good.

Timing system: 16 valves (4 per cylinder). Again, there are no hydraulic lifters, there are ordinary pushers. BUT there are two phase shifters on the intake and exhaust shaft (D-CVVT). There is a lamellar toothed chain.

Intake and exhaust manifold : As usual, the intake is made of plastic, with a variable intake geometry system (VIS). The outlet is made of stainless steel, with a built-in catalyst.

Lubrication: You need to fill in synthetics 5W30 or 5W40, replacement is allowed after 15,000 km (the volume is also about 3.3 liters). Works at a temperature of 90 degrees Celsius.

Manufacturer resource - about 200,000 km.

Pros and consKAPPA

If we compare the G4LC and G4FA (1.4 liters), then the KAPPA generation reaches maximum power already at 6,000 rpm. Whereas the GAMMA at 6300 rpm. This was achieved with a longer piston stroke:

GAMMA1.4 , stroke-75mm, diameter-77mm

KAPPA1.4 , stroke-84mm, diameter-72mm. That is, he is smaller, but walks more.

Another advantage is good fuel economy (up to 0.2-0.3 liters per 100 km, if compared with the opponent) and the elasticity of the engine, it also has two phase shifters. Well, the weight reduction by 14 kg also gives advantages in acceleration and fuel consumption.

In most cases, there are also metal throttles, thermostats, there is a cooling of the cylinders with nozzles. With proper maintenance (change the oil after 10,000 km and pour a good one), more than 250,000 km go (this is proven by the operation of the i30 and CEED). By the way, it is now put on the RIO X-Line

The disadvantages are LIGHTENING of everything and everyone, especially the block, connecting rods, pistons (by 14 kg). Of course "" is also possible ( craftsmen), but will be more accurate and complex. Again, the nozzles are noisy, this is just a specific design. We change the pushers every 100,000 km and the chain mechanism every 150,000 km (although this is not so expensive, by modern standards). Just like on many modern cars, there may be problems with badges from the catalyst (but this is not a complaint about this power unit).

The motor also turned out to be successful, and it picks up much faster than the opponent, walks easily up to 250,000 km and has practically no problems with proper care.

Now we are watching the video version of the article, I think it will be interesting.

To summarize, we can say that any engine with a volume of 1.4 or 1.6 liters on cars HYUNDAI Solaris, Elantra, i30, Creta, and also on KIA RIO, RIO X-line, CEED, Cerato - WALK WITHOUT PROBLEMS, often just huge runs of 500 - 600,000 km. TAKE, DO NOT BE AFRAID.

KIA cars take first positions in sales ratings budget models... One of the most popular cars called Rio has been in steady demand for more than one year. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is reliable engines. Many buyers choose a 1.6-liter power unit, which we decided to devote a new article to. Today you will find out the resource of this engine, its advantages and disadvantages, as well as the recommendations of specialists to extend the life of the unit.

Engine advantages and disadvantages

The most famous virtues can be called:

  1. Good performance indicators. Average consumption The 1.6-liter Kia Rio's fuel is about 6-7 liters on the combined cycle. It's not in "retirement", but not in race mode either. This result was achieved high quality assembly, as well as thoughtful parameters of the engine ECU.
  2. Great power. Note that according to this indicator, Rio occupies one of the first lines in its segment. Thanks to this, the car is very dynamic, copes with overtaking just fine. According to official data, acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h lasts only 10.3 seconds.
  3. High elasticity. The developers were able to best distribute the characteristics between the engine and the gearbox. The result is a pleasant feeling of confidence in various driving situations.

Disadvantages engine 1.6 steel:

  • Low maintainability. Certain engine components cannot be replaced individually (you have to replace the complete assembly). Although the repair process itself is greatly facilitated, the disadvantage is high price similar procedures. However, this can be said about almost all modern budget cars.
  • Engine dimensions. Engine compartment is significantly limited, therefore there are difficulties with access to various components of the engine and its attachments... We have to disassemble some of the details along the way.
  • Aluminum cylinder head. If the engine overheats, the compression ratio can deteriorate significantly, as well as the compression. At the same time, motors with such a cylinder head are considered more powerful (the difference is 20-30%, compared to engines with a cast iron cylinder head).

Features and real engine life

One of the very significant benefits this motor is its reliability and long service life. Since many cars with this unit are more than 5 years old, there are instances with real mileage exceeding the mark of 300 thousand kilometers. At the same time, the motors work perfectly and do not cause any complaints.

The manufacturer claims that the resource of the Kia Rio 1.6 engine is 200,000 kilometers. But practice has shown that even with not the most accurate and timely maintenance, this unit can last at least twice as long.

How to extend the resource?

Of course, no matter how high the reliability of the power unit is, every motorist would like to avoid its breakdown and maximize the life of the engine. We will cover the main recommendations:

  1. Quality fuel. Do not save and refuel at proven gas stations famous brands... Do not use low octane fuel.
  2. Timely oil change. The quality of engine lubrication directly affects its life. Use only oils recommended by the manufacturer.
  3. Gentle driving mode. It is not recommended to constantly press on the gas, it is better to drive at medium speeds.

These simple tips will help you significantly increase the resource of the Kia Rio engine.

Summing up

In real conditions, the engine under consideration has established itself as a very reliable unit. This is one of the best options of those that are available on the market in this price range. Many car owners Kia rio it is advised to buy a car with a 1.6-liter engine.

Kia Sid 1.6 liter engine G4FC has become one of the most popular in our country. The atmospheric unit can be found on other Korean models. For example, the motor was installed on a Hyundai Solaris or Kia Rio. The engine turned out to be extremely successful and reliable. The Kia Ceed powertrain has great amount modifications of different power.

In Russia, you can find several generations and restyling of the Kia Ceed 1.6 at once. True, there were no significant structural changes with the gasoline atmospheric engine. The inline 4-cylinder 16-valve engine with a chain drive and a variable valve timing system CVVT has been upgraded several times.

Kia Sid 1.6 liter engine

An engine from the Gamma series with a volume of 1.6 liters and 122 capacity appeared on the first generation Kia Ceed. At the heart of the aluminum cylinder block. The motor has no hydraulic compensators. Quite reliable chain drive. Initially, a motor with a phase shifter was installed on the Sid only on the intake shaft. But on the new generation, a version of the Gamma II engine appeared, where the phase change system is already on both camshafts. This increased the power to 130 hp. and to make the exhaust more environmentally friendly, which is very useful against the background of constantly tightening standards. At the same time, another modification of the same engine was introduced to the market, but with direct fuel injection GDI, which already develops 135 hp.

The motor is extremely light precisely because of the widespread use of aluminum. In addition to the block itself, the head of the block in the motor uses a special aluminum pastel, where the crankshaft is laid.

For all its advantages, an all-aluminum engine has a number of disadvantages. Firstly, the Kia Sid 1.6 motor is very afraid of overheating. After all, a violation of the normal temperature regime leads to deformation of the aluminum alloy. With severe overheating, not only the block head suffers, but also the aluminum pastel where the crankshaft is placed. If the cylinder head can be sanded a little, then the deformation of the pastel is the death of the motor. Another problem is oil starvation, which can also lead to serious consequences, so you need to regularly monitor the oil level on the Kia Sid engine with high mileage. Insufficient pressure oil will eventually lead to interruptions in the operation of the phase shifters.

Timing drive Kia Sid 1.6 liter

The Kia Ceed 1.6's gas distribution mechanism is quite reliable and does not require intervention for a long time. With intensive use, the chain is already stretched to 100 thousand kilometers. If you bought on secondary market Sid with high mileage and ringing noise from under the hood, then you need to prepare to replace the chain, tensioners, dampers and sprockets. The work is very laborious and requires the professional skills of a car mechanic.

Next, let's talk about the technical characteristics of the 1.6 liter Kia Sid engine. However, taking into account the mass of various modifications, let us focus on its basic version of the 2006-2007 model Gamma G4FC with one phase shifter on the intake shaft.

Characteristics of the Kia Ceed 1.6 liter engine

  • Working volume - 1591 cm3
