After the release in Russia Hyundai creta, many have been waiting for what Kia will answer when they have a compact SUV. And then there appeared Rio X-Line... Why not a crossover?

The Hyundai-Kia plant in St. Petersburg does not have enough capacity to make another model, which will be produced in tens of thousands. The stake was placed on Creta - and it is justified if you look at the sales statistics. And Kia had to abandon the SUV for now in favor of a raised hatchback.

The X-Line differs from the usual Rio primarily in an off-road body kit made of unpainted plastic, rails and increased ground clearance - 170 mm versus 160 mm for the sedan. There aren't many changes at the front, but at the back you can recognize the X-Line by the bar between the LEDs of the taillights and the twin exhaust pipes.

Nothing special? But visually, I think the raised Rio looks prettier than its sedan sibling.

In addition, the hatchback is 10 millimeters wider and 50 millimeters taller than the four-door. The roof is raised by 14 mm in the area of \u200b\u200bthe second row - so that tall passengers do not have to prop up the ceiling with their heads.

How inside

The interior has completely migrated from the usual Kia. And there is nothing wrong with that, as it is one of the best in the segment. Almost perfect ergonomics, cozy salon, well-readable devices and multimedia with a simple and logical interface.

You can find fault only with the hard plastic (although for the "state employee" it is still worth making a discount) and the lack of adjustment of the lumbar selection in the driver's seat. The latter will be especially noticeable for those with back problems.

In front there are two 12 volt sockets, USB and AUX. In my opinion, it would be better to put two USB-connectors, in the age of gadgets one is already not enough, and when the car is full of passengers, then everyone wants to recharge their device. Bribing adapters is not an option.

The rear seat legroom is the same as the Rio's, but as mentioned, there is a little more headroom overhead: the roof is higher than the regular version.

The trunk is smaller than the "sedan" - 390 liters versus 480 liters. However, this volume is 29 liters more than that of Lada xray and 70 liters than Renault Sandero... In addition, by folding the backs of the rear seats in parts, it is more convenient to transport bulky goods in the X-line.

The only pity is that there are no hooks, you will have to be content with only niches on the sides. In this regard, of course, Koreans should take a closer look at what AvtoVAZ is doing now. Have, which many call for some reason a competitor to the X-Line, so many pleasant and convenient "chips" in the trunk that even Skoda can envy.

But back to the X-Line. I liked the hatchback with a large number of useful and pleasant options that will come in handy right now. Our car had heated front seats, windshield and rear windows, steering wheel and back sofa. All that was missing was the heating of the washer nozzles and the remote start. However, even without this, Kia's winter package is really impressive. In the morning before work, you do not have to spend precious minutes cleaning the glass from ice.

Like the sedan, the hatchback is sold in Russia with two engines. These are 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter engines with a capacity of 100 and 123 hp, with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-band "automatic". As usual, we had a variant with AT and the most powerful unit.

It is not worth waiting for a hurricane acceleration from the X-Line - in terms of numbers (and in terms of sensations), it is slightly slower than a sedan. It's all about the curb weight increased by 5-15 kg, depending on the configuration. The result of 11.6 seconds to "hundreds" does not seem so hot what an achievement. But for city driving, this is quite enough.

But with overtaking on the track, problems may arise. You will not be able to accelerate quickly - neither from a place, nor while driving. If you sharply press the gas pedal, then the car thinks, the engine spins up, and then only the car comes to life. Another thing is that the roar of the engine is such that every time you think whether it is worth mocking the car in this way.

It is much more pleasant to drive the X-Line in a calm and measured mode. Thanks to new springs and shock absorbers, the Koreans managed to achieve the optimal balance between comfort and handling. The hatchback drives perfectly, responding quickly to all your actions, and there are no rolls in corners.

The suspension allows you not to drop speed on large bumps, it is a pity that it does not cope with average irregularities so confidently. For example, during the test, the joints on the bridges became one of the biggest tests. It didn’t come to the "breakthroughs", although there was little pleasant.

Noise isolation? Many colleagues complained that they could not hear each other in the cabin at high speed. But I didn't think so. If you do not torture the engine, there will be no problems. It is possible that all this is due to the tires. Our hatchback had studless Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, which, by the way, proved to be excellent not only on dry asphalt, but also during winter blizzards, when Moscow was covered with snow.

What is the bottom line

Rio X-Line is sold in Russia from 686,410 rubles, our test car costs 964,900 rubles, the top version will cost 1,024,900 rubles.

The elevated hatchback is most suitable for residents of megacities who are tired of sedans. New Korean can offer cute designs, excellent driving performance and a rich set of options.

But it a priori cannot be an alternative to a crossover with a ground clearance of 170 mm, this must be understood. Moreover, the front bumper is painted gray at the bottom, so you need to drive up to the curbs carefully.

Kia's real competitors are Lada Xray (from 614,900 rubles) and Renault Sandero stepway (from 649 900 rubles). But they do not have such an intelligible and clear "automaton". In this regard, the Korean has an advantage. However, Xray and Sandero Stepway have their own advantages. For example, the ground clearance of both the first and the second is an impressive 195 mm. Incidentally, the Xray performed well on our moderate off-road test.

But the most important thing is that there is even more choice in this class, and there is no doubt that the Kia Rio X-Line will also find its customers.

New Kia Rio X Line price which was announced in the fall of 2017 turned out to be a very attractive offer and may well compete with the domestic novelty Vesta SV Cross, which we have already written about. We will not go into comparisons, soon the buyers themselves will reveal the winner in this battle.

The Kia Rio X-Line is essentially a regular Rio hatch with an abundance of off-road plastic protection and minimal changes in the suspension that allowed to increase 10 centimeters of ground clearance. Convenient and practical 5-door body, original appearance is unlikely to attract fans of real off-road. However, modern and stylish summer residents may well be interested in the model.

Exterior Kia Rio X Line is a copy of the Chinese kia models K2 Cross. The Russian division of the Korean concern did not begin to reinvent the wheel, but took a ready-made car from a neighboring market, especially since the aggregate base of X Line and the Rio sedan is common. The usual hatchback (which is sold in the same China, but left our market) received a plastic body kit, bumpers with silver inserts, a new radiator grill, decorative rails. The rear part has its own original lights and a successful design with a large opening making the car as practical as possible.

However, this is all that Korean designers could squeeze out of the 16-centimeter ground clearance of a conventional sedan. In general, no one was going to invest serious resources in the Rio X-Line.

Good day everyone. I'll tell you a little about my new KIA Rio X-line, the car was purchased on November 25, 2017 in the basic configuration with an AT gearbox with a 1.6 engine. It was purchased for 839.9 thousand rubles. Of additional options it was found: engine protection, carpets in the interior and trunk, tinted rear windows and alarm. A little later, I think to install: window deflectors, hood shock absorbers and pour it with liquid glass. The car was chosen in the simplest configuration on the machine. And here there is: air conditioner, music radio USB media, heated mirrors, adjustment, heating rear window, heated front seats and backrests, the steering wheel resembles leather also with heating, music control on the steering wheel, tire pressure sensor. After 2000 thousand people were told to change the engine oil. The operating instructions say SAE 5W - 20, API SM, ILSAC GF4 is original korean oil... Marking 05100-00451. Better to pour into the engine, as provided by the manufacturer. To date, I drove 839 km, I am satisfied with the car. The engine on the KIA Rio X-line runs quietly. The design of the car is beautifully made in the style of a crossover. The cabin with my height 176 is spacious. The box works smoothly and can be manually switched. Noise isolation is normal, a little noise is heard from the spiked rubber. The trunk is comfortable, the seats can be folded, there will be more. There is enough clearance, the suspension works perfectly.

Highly beautiful car, looks stylish, has, in my opinion, a sporty look. The color of the KIA Rio X-line is very pleasing to the eye, especially in the sun, according to the TCP it is light brown, in fact the color of coffee with milk with metallic. The front end looks good, but the stern is generally pretty. The door handles are not very good, it would be better in body color. Now about the salon - the chairs are very comfortable, comfortable to sit, you can adjust even for small stature (we had such a problem with the Polo), the upholstery is fabric, but good quality... The disadvantage is the short armrest. IN salon KIA The Rio X-line has plenty of room. I also liked the dashboard, it is very readable (compared to the Polo - heaven and earth), the illumination is pleasing to the eye. The control buttons are conveniently located, in my opinion, everything is at hand. Compared to Polo, the KIA Rio X-line is not noisy while driving, you can easily talk and listen to music. The engine noise is practically inaudible, but while the car is running in, the speed is not high, and we do not spin the engine much. Visibility is good, but I would like larger side mirrors. The dimensions of the car are well felt, even for my wife it was easy to drive after the Chevrolet Spark. A big plus for this complete set of the car is a rear-view camera and parking sensors, the wife parked in parallel parking the first time (it took her time to learn how to use her car). There is also a very good option: at night, when you turn the steering wheel, an additional headlight turns on to illuminate the turn, which makes it much easier to drive on unlit sections of the road (especially in the private sector, where there are no sidewalks, but there are children and dogs). In general, I really liked the head lighting of the car, the headlights are lensed, a large sector of illumination of the road and shoulders, even in the low beam. There is a mode automatic switching on headlights. I was pleased with the climate control, the comfortable temperature inside the entire cabin, there is no such feeling that it warms only in the legs or face. At first impressions: the suspension of the KIA Rio X-line works smoothly, the car holds the road well, even in a rut the car does not float, the holes also go with a bang. What to say about the automatic transmission: it works very smoothly, when shifting gears, jerks are not felt, you can only see it by the tachometer. The only drawback is that when you stop in front of a traffic light (at an intersection), you feel a slight vibration when you press the brake. Now about the brakes: very responsive, one might say gentle, you need to treat like a beloved woman - affectionately. Yes, I forgot to write about the trunk of the KIA Rio X-line - it is roomy enough, there will be enough space for travel on vacation with average luggage. In general, first impressions of ownership by KIA car Rio X-line is very positive, the car suits absolutely in all respects.

The suspension (I have not yet delved into the technical component) is different, the car holds the road better, at speeds above 100-120 it does not throw the stern like on the previous car, I'm sure something was done with the beam. It is more pleasant to go into turns and, despite the increased ground clearance, the rolls are less. Perhaps this is just a subjective observation, but I remember that I used to hold the steering wheel, my fingers were crunching. Engine and gearbox. Previously, we had 1.4 on a 4-speed automatic. In principle, enough for the city, consumption is about 7-8 liters. Now 1.6 is at 6-speed, the difference is noticeable, overtaking is more confident, the consumption is still closer to 9. The engine is more flexible in the entire rev range. Salon. Well, here I said right away that if they had put me in the car, having closed my eyes and not showing that it was a KIA Rio X-line, I would never have said that it was a KIA Rio X-line. Inside, it looks like the salons of the class, or even two higher. Of course, we are talking about a premium package. There is more space, everything is ergonomic, beautiful and where it should be. The radio is very nimble. I thought the navigation would be awful, but I didn't guess, it works perfectly, we have already used it a couple of times, everything is adequately calculated and led. The steering wheel is very pleasant to the touch with all the controls, speakerphone high-quality, the dashboard is similar to the Germans, the designers in the KIA from the big German three are felt. Although the leather is artificial and 500 km is not an indicator, it seems to be of good quality, even with perforation. Frontal heating is a separate topic altogether.

Now that didn't like it anymore. Shumka. It's almost gone. Then I remembered how three managers from different salons offered to additionally make the underbody soundproofing in two layers. The thorns are audible strongly, I think you will have to glue it yourself. As far as I know, the first car even fell under a revocable action due to noise and water ingress due to leaks in taillights... Interior plastic. It is beautiful and neat until you hook it, as soon as you hook it a little, a scratch or abrasion is immediately visible. For me, it is too gentle, because, for example, I really like to cling to the base of the seat with my foot when I get into the car. The frontal heating, which I praised above, has its drawback, namely the mesh. If you drive, concentrating on the road, then everything is fine, but as soon as you notice it, it immediately interferes. The image is refracted from different angles and under different illumination, for example, at night with oncoming headlights it is already a little annoying, as if the image is fuzzy. The glove compartment is just tin. You cannot put A4 format so that nothing is crumpled, if the palm is large, then it is corny inconvenient to put something in and get out of it.
